The Danish gala premiere of the highly anticipated blockbuster “The Danish Girl” is just around the corner. On February 2nd Imperial Theatre in downtown Copenhagen will welcome the film’s creative trio Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Vikander and director Tom Hooper.

Both the stars attendance at the premiere and the fact that the film takes place in one of Denmark’s old boroughs is something that is predicted great branding significance for the country.

“The Danish Girl” is a great showcase to the world. The many fantastic photos of Copenhagen tells the story of a city with an architecture where houses and buildings dating back to the 1600s is part of the city’s hallmark. We are proud of all the new buildings from Danish and foreign reputable architects but the historic Copenhagen has a special charm that can not be copied,” says brand manager of Visit Denmark, Anja Hartung Sfyrla.

Besides branding value it is just as well a lucrative business to attract foreign film productions in this caliber to the region because of the high local spend these productions have. Copenhagen Film Fund helped get the film to Copenhagen via an investment of six million. As CEO of the Copenhagen Film Fund, Thomas Gammeltoft says to the Danish news paper Berlingske Business:

“They have spent a lot of money on hotels (“The Danish Girl” crew, red.). At the same time they have created a great deal of jobs. We get a lot back on this investment. ”

The CEO estimates that “The Danish Girl” has brought Copenhagen a turnover of 14 million kroner.

The film is in Danish cinemas from the 4th of February.
