When the film festival in Venice, which is one of the world’s leading film festivals, takes place 2nd to 12th September it will be with “The Danish Girl”, which is funded by Copenhagen Film Festival, in the official selection.
Thanks to funding from Copenhagen Film Fund the film was shot in Copenhagen on more than 20 locations during the course of ten days in the early spring, at Nyhavn, Frederiksberg and the ballroom at Charlottenborg among other places.
”The Danish Girl”’s leading role is being played by Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne, who is portraying the Danish artist Lile Elbe/Mogens Wegener, who in 1930 was one of the first humans in the world to undergo a sex change operation. Swedish Alicia Vikander is playing his wife Gerda Wegener. Tom Hooper, who won an Oscar for “The King’s Speech”, is directing.
