In collaboration with local partners Copenhagen Film Fund has succeeded in landing the full production of Red Arrow International and Fabrik Entertainment’s new tv-series Embassy Down for Denmark. ‘A truly dream project’ according to the CEO of the Fund

Several countries competed to land Red Arrow International and Fabrik Entertainment’s high profile drama series Embassy Down. Now the efforts of Copenhagen Film Fund and an investment of 1.75 million euros have resulted in Embassy Down locating the entire production in Copenhagen. Shooting will start in summer 2017.

“It is truly a dream project. It builds on our brilliant storytelling in Denmark, making use of our talents both in front of and behind the camera, to help create a great series aimed for both the domestic and international markets. This quality cultural export is also great branding for Denmark. All reasons why the fund went that extra mile to make it happen. Our initial proposed investment in the series turned out to not be sufficient to secure the total production of the series in Copenhagen, which is why together with Nordisk Film and Studio FilmStationen we made an extra investment ending on a grand total of € 1.75 Mio. to secure the project," explains Thomas Gammeltoft CEO in the Copenhagen Film Fund.

Embassy Down is created and written by acclaimed Danish writer Anders Frithiof August, and produced by Tomas Radoor and René Ezra of Nordisk Film. The production will bring millions of euros into Denmark, and this investment is expected to yield significantly more in GNI. Although the plot of Embassy Down unfolds in Copenhagen, the city was not originally the chosen location for the shoot.

“Denmark is one of only four countries in Europe not to offer a rebate to productions from other countries, so Red Arrow International was considering basing the production in other European locations that do have tax incentives. However, when crunch time came, Red Arrow decided to opt for Danish talent and culture”, sais Gammeltoft.

On behalf of his own company and Fabrik Entertainment, Henrik Pabst, Managing Director at Red Arrow International, expresses enthusiasm about working with such great financing partners as the Copenhagen Film Fund and Filmstationen, alongside producers Nordisk Film, and their co-production partner MTG Studios.

“Denmark is an extraordinary creative and production hub, and given that Embassy Down is both set and shooting in Copenhagen, working with the Copenhagen Film Fund and partners is a great example of how this kind of funding can work to create a show that is as authentic as possible,” sais Henrik Pabst.

Red Arrow International, who will also handle worldwide distribution, and Fabrik Entertainment are producing Embassy Down in collaboration with Danish producers René Ezra and Tomas Radoor at Nordisk Film. The series is co-produced by international digital entertainment group MTG Studios for its Viaplay service, the leading video streaming service in the Nordics; and executive produced by Henrik Bastin of Fabrik Entertainment, a Red Arrow Entertainment Company, and Mikkel Bondesen, along with Amelie von Kienlin, SVP Scripted Acquisitions and Co-Productions at Red Arrow International, and Melissa Aouate, Head of Development at Fabrik Entertainment.

Embassy Down will premiere on the streaming service Viaplay in the Nordics in 2018.

Copenhagen Film Fund in Brief
By offering investment, the Copenhagen Film Fund attracts foreign film and TV productions to Greater Copenhagen in order to create growth, employment and raise the profile of the region. Over the past four years the Fund has invested almost 6.7 million euros in project such as THE DANISH GIRL, THE BRIDGE (Seasons III and IV), WALLANDER with Kenneth Branagh, THE TEAM and the Norwegian disaster movie THE WAVE and note least The Norwegian THE KING’S CHOICE and THE PARTY both playing at the Berlinale 2017. Most recently the Fund has, through its investment, ensured that Lars von Trier’s new film THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT has chosen to base half the film’s production - which would otherwise have been snapped up by Germany - in Denmark.
