THE UNTAMED
PITCH
Director Amat Escalante is one the most interesting international filmmakers right now. Han won The Palme d’Or for directing at Cannes for his last film “Heli” (2013), which he now follows up with this drama “The Untamed”. He is part of the wave of extremely talented Mexican directors, and, like his fellow Mexicans, he mixes realism and fantasy to fantastic fables.
A meteor crashes on an isolated mountain in Mexico. At the same time, two lovers in the Mexican lowlands are trying to find themselves and each other without getting destroyed from within in the process. Forces far greater than then are about to change their lives.
There is a lot of CGI and VFX in the film which is an area of focus for Copenhagen Film Fund. Peter Hjort has been CGI-consultant on all of Lars von Triers feature films and is VFX-designer on “The Untamed”. The production is also working with Danish Soda, who are experts at animated puppets.
The film is produced by Danish Katrin Pors and Danish-based Katja Adomeit, and Danish Manuel Claro is director of photography.
